About Dr Anna Does

~ Why we want to Inspire the next generation with STEM ~

Dr Anna Does initially started as an informal collaboration between a local school and their PTA. As Dr Anna was involved in research that led to the Nobel prize being awarded to two female scientists, Dr Anna was invited to give a presentation about her role as a woman in science for Science Week. Dr Anna gave an age-appropriate talk that started with her childhood as a first-generation immigrant, her desire to change the world with medical research even though no other family member had ever attended further education before and how she was given the opportunity to help build new research facilities in London. The children were also encouraged to try out a group genetic experiment to see how we use diagnostic testing in research. The teachers and children enjoyed the session so much that the school’s PTA arranged to give more STEM-based lessons for other year groups.

Over the last five years, the number of National Curriculum themes covered, and depth of the sessions content, has increased. Dr Anna has used her extensive scientific background and business contacts to provide access to resources not generally available to primary schools. Since these first sessions, several teachers have also moved to other locations and expressed a desire to continue this collaboration. So, to facilitate this enhanced learning across the West London region, Dr Anna Does became a limited company in 2023. Dr Anna Does is now able to help facilitate primary school teachers to meet their national curriculum requirements for Foundation, KS1 and KS2 age groups across the London region.

Dr Anna Does believes that given the right opportunities, any child can achieve anything if they realise that it is a possibility. As primary schools do not necessarily have the background, expertise, or time to research the changing National Curriculum requirements, Dr Anna has the unique ability to meet these demands on behalf of the school. By blending her extensive scientific background and outreach experiences, Dr Anna Does STEM-based themes provide unique educational and engaging experiments related to the National Curriculum and makes them relatable to the children’s day-to-day life. By using innovative thinking and age-appropriate resources, the aim of the Dr Anna Does sessions is to inspire the children to think beyond their location, beliefs, and financial limitations. Physical interaction is actively encouraged during the sessions to show the children can achieve more than they thought was possible, even if using normal household materials. By expanding their horizons, the children can now find these big concepts more manageable and use these practical skills to help absorb the school’s own teaching better. This improves their learning ability both while at primary school and throughout their future education.

To ensure Dr Anna Does works to the highest standards, the company is fully insured. Dr Anna is a certified and experienced teacher with enhanced DBS clearance. All the Dr Anna Does sessions are RISK assessed and all resources are child safe with allergen information supplied so the children can get fully involved with the practical elements without fear or prejudice. When necessary, adjustments or additional customisation can be made to meet a specific requirement to ensure that all children from any ability and/or background can take an active part in the practical skills covered. Specific details about key aspects of the sessions can be found on the corresponding Curriculum theme page. Details about Dr Anna Does general policies, procedures and conditions can be found on the Terms and Conditions page.
